Iranian-born actress, Nazanin Boniadi , who has captured the heart of soap opera lovers as the stunning nurse Leyla Mir on ABC’s General Hospital, has joined the effort to save the life Akram Mahdavi , a young Iranian mother facing imminent execution by hanging.
The complainants in Akram’s case have agreed to forego their request for execution in exchange for $60,000 (USD) in Diyeh (“blood money”). To help raise this amount, and spare Akram from execution by hanging, Ms. Boniadi has placed the spectacular “little red dress” that she wore to the 2007 Emmy Awards up for auction on EBay .
Ms. Boniadi, who was handpicked by Oscar Award-winning director Mike Nichols for a part in Charlie Wilson's War, starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman and has a part in Marvel Comics' upcoming film Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr. has joined a team of dedicated lawyers, journalists, and human rights activists working in and outside Iran to raise the requisite money that would save Akram’s life and return her to a new life with her young daughter.
